About
Hi! My name is Smruti Desai and I am a licensed professional counselor in Decatur, GA and a licensed mental health counselor in Seattle, WA. For the last 14 years, I have worked with clients of all ages from a variety of backgrounds. Much of my clinical experience comes from working in community based settings where I worked as a therapist and clinical supervisor. In addition, I have specialized training working with developmental/relational trauma, social/cultural/generational trauma, children of immigrants, lgbtq+/racial identity issues, and family of origin concerns. I also am very interested in the intersections of oppression, individual identity, and the impacts on our bodies.
I strongly believe that the systems we live in matter. “Mental health” includes creating better systems while also working on our individual selves, it requires both. I do my part to support individual and collective change. I also believe healing requires joy and rest.
I graduated with a B.S. in English from Berry College and with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School. I also completed the three year Somatic Experiencing training in 2020.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking and trying delicious new food, seeing new movies(Hollywood and Bollywood), reading, laughing, hanging with loved ones, attempts at gardening, and trying to do my part to make the world a kinder and more just place.
